     Geri-Fit is an evidenced-based health development program that focuses on chronic disease through a self-managed support program designed particularly for older adults re-building endurance and strength that has been absent through the aging process and to aid in a higher level of function as older adults continue the aging process.

 

     The Geri-Fit program requires a set of light dumbbell weights (if one cannot use weights these exercises can be performed without), a stable chair, stretch bands (if one can not use stretch bands this can be performed without) and water to drink throughout your workout (keeping hydrated is essential). These forms of exercises do not consist of dancing, choreography or floorwork. Geri-Fit is challenging, rewarding, effective and very safe to do when taught within the correct format. Individuals involved in this amazing program will surprisingly turn back the hands of time with each workout and feel rejuvenated. 

 

     The Geri-Fit program is a physical program that blends in a multitude of exercises based on stretching and a wide range of motion exercises working on stability and balance training to help prevent falls, cardiovascular activity for a healthy heart, and gait exercises to help improve waking (unless the individual is wheelchair bound) then chair exercises will be implemented. 
Building endurance and becoming stronger is not the only positive useful outcome that’s attained with Geri-Fit.

 

      Older adults will also see a change and improvement in balance and functional capacity which will reduce fall risks. Other benefits of this program are being able to enhance activities of daily living necessities such as but not limited to carrying groceries, being able to get in and out of the car, standing up from a seated position, picking up a pet, bending down and being able to pet your pet, walking up and down the stairs and just being able to move your body more freely with more security and confidence. A distinguishable improvement will also be noticeable in mood. Most individuals will experience decreased anxiety and depression within just a few weeks starting the Geri-Fit program.
     

      My Geri-fit exercise classes cater to seniors and older adults living in their own home, assisted living communities, independent living communities, nursing homes and memory care units and anyone with a disability that would like a bit of structure learning new exercises in a fun safe way.
